Some people have been told by “old timers” or someone “in the know” that a septic system never needs cleaning. Or maybe that it only needs pumping every 10 or 15 years; “out of sight out of mind.” Another myth is that a tank takes years to “fill” after cleaning. The average home generates between 200 and 400 gallons of waste per day. This means the tank is filled in 2-3 days (for a common 1000 gallon tank), and should maintain a water level of 6″- 8″ below the top.
If maintained properly you can prevent problems from occurring. We recommend pumping your tank every 2 or 3 years. At the time it’s pumped, we clean the outlet filter (if your tank is equipped with one) and conduct a brief visual inspection as well.
